U-part wig

• What it is: A wig with a U-shaped opening at the top. You leave some of your own hair out to cover the opening.
• Look: Most natural at the part because your real hair is showing.
• Install: No glue; clip or sew around the U-part. Fast, beginner-friendly.
• Styling: Great for heat styling and daily part shifts using your leave-out.
• Hair/Scalp needs: You must have enough healthy hair for leave-out that matches the wig’s texture/color; not ideal for thinning edges or traction alopecia.
• Maintenance: You’ll likely use heat on the leave-out to blend.
• Cost: Usually less than HD lace closures.

HD closure wig

• What it is: A wig with an HD (high-definition) ultra-thin lace closure (e.g., 4×4, 5×5, 6×6) at the front/top—no leave-out required.
• Look: “Scalp” illusion when the lace is tinted/melted; more seamless hairline than standard lace.
• Install: Can be glueless or with adhesive/gel; takes more technique than a U-part.
• Styling: Parting limited to closure size (middle/side within the closure); more protective for your hair since everything is tucked away.
• Hair/Scalp needs: Good for thinning edges or breakage—minimal manipulation of your own hair.
• Maintenance: Lace is delicate; careful washing, melting, and storage required.
• Cost: Usually more than U-part due to HD lace.

Which to choose?

• Pick a U-part if you want the fastest install, dislike glue, and have healthy leave-out that blends perfectly.
• Pick an HD closure wig if you want a melted “no-leave-out” look, more protection for your hair, or if your texture/color is hard to match daily.
